travel for work – from free to slave states

I am sure I’m not the only one – as a consultant i travel for work for what can be short or long times. I have my FL carry permit – which is good when I travel to my client in MO – but not so much when i head to their office in occupied IL. What alternate forms of protection do you suggest for those of us who may work like this? (if I had a car my options would be easier – but I fly so that limits what can be carried on board).
